Why polka dots usually sit in the back of my closet permanently

Let's be real. Polka dots are hard. If the tailoring is off by even a tiny bit, you don't look chic at all. You just look like you are wearing a retro costume for some 1950s themed office party... which is a look, but maybe not the one you wanted? Most contemporary brands just miss the mark completely with this print.

A full lifestyle shot of the luxury French style dress featuring premium polka dot styling by OTHER STORE.

When we were messing around with the patterns for our new Faya piece here at OTHER STORE, the plan was actually pretty simple. Just kill that old retro cliché once and for all. We wanted a clean, sharp French style dress that felt actually modern. Alive. Something you can walk in without feeling like a stiff statue.

It always comes down to the neck lines, honestly. We ended up cutting a super deep, double V for this one—both the front and the back. Most of the mass-market clothing factories avoid this shape because holding the shoulders in place without it sliding off constantly is a nightmare. But we spent like, weeks, tweaking samples until it sat exactly right on the collarbones. It gives your neck this weirdly beautiful, elongated breathing room. Tiny detail, but it changes your posture immediately.

Also the fabric choice matters a lot here. It's a heavier blend with 95% polyester and 5% polyamide. The main reason we used this weave is because it holds that specific structure without wrinkling into a messy disaster the second you sit down in a taxi or a flight. Major win.

Then you have the waist area. No cheap elastic bands. Instead, the team hand-sculpts a 3D flower thing directly into the fabric folds. Every single one is made by hand in our atelier. The material kind of radiates outward from that center rose, which creates these soft asymmetric drapes across the hips. It just makes your torso look super long and lean.

The noir black feels very grounded and structural. The white version? Just pure graphic luxury.

The best thing about this whole design is that you don't really need to overthink the styling. Throw it on with some old flat leather slides and a canvas tote for a casual weekend morning, and it works perfectly as a polka dot sundress.

But if you swap the flats for a pair of pointed mules and throw on some simple gold hoops? It instantly shifts gears into a very elegant dinner dress. No effort required, it just works.
